An Analysis of Gay Characters in American Drama

This project offers a possible analysis of American gay drama by taking its most representative characters as the focal point. A suggestion on a methodological approach for these characters is presented before the character analysis properly starts, so that readers are free to judge whether it should be applied to the rest of the plays belonging to this genre or not. It is also worth mentioning that some plays have not been subject to much previous critical analysis, which enriches the conclusion of this project. A special emphasis is put on how these characters represent the struggle of the gay individual with the homophobic society they belong to. Therefore, by observing how they cope with the heteronormative world, it is easier to frame and appreciate the gay identity. Finally, an understanding of this sexual identity is offered, paying significant attention to its long-denied, and still not granted, social place.Este proyecto ofrece un posible análisis del teatro gay americano, tomando sus personajes más representativos como punto central. Previo al análisis de dichos personajes, se sugiere una propuesta metodológica crítica, de manera que el lector pueda juzgar la validez de ésta para el resto de obras que pertenecen a este género. Cabe destacar que algunas de las obras seleccionadas apenas han estado sujetas al ojo crítico, lo que enriquece la conclusión de este proyecto. La lucha del individuo homosexual respecto a la sociedad homófoba a la que pertenece recibe un énfasis especial. Por ello, al observar cómo estos personajes lidian con un mundo heteronormativo, es más sencillo encuadrar y entender la identidad gay. Adecuación de la competencia profesional de la persona trabajadora al trabajo que realiza

En este artículo se estudia la adecuación entre la competencia profesional que una persona posee y los requerimientos del trabajo que realiza. Para ello se discute primero el concepto de competencia profesional; segundo, se exponen las diferentes maneras en que tal concepto se suele medir; tercero, se define el concepto de adecuación competencia-empleo; y por último se comentan algunos de los datos que sobre dicha adecuación existen para Andalucía y España. La originalidad de este trabajo reside, tanto en su orientación académico-didáctica-administrativa, como en el uso de datos que provienen de una encuesta que en 20008 se realizó a PYMES andaluzas.In this article, the (mis)match between workers’ skills and job requirements is reviewed. First, the concept of job competence is explored. Second, the ways in which this concept has been operationalized are explained. Third, the concept of match between skills and job requirements is defined. And fourth, some data about this match is discussed for both Spain and Andalusia. A modified Brazilian test for the generalized-fracturetoughness determination in multimaterial corners. Numerical and experimental results

Celebrado en Girona, 5, 6, 7 y 8 de julio de 2011In the present work, a general procedure for the experimental evaluation of the generalized fracture toughness in multimaterial corners is defined. The proposed method is suitable for closed corners (all material wedges being bonded) having two singular terms in the asymptotic stress representation at the corner tip. For a particular corner configuration, the method finds the load configuration at which one of the singular terms vanishes, thus the main stress contribution being controlled by the other non-vanishing singular term. The experimental test, until failure, using the previously defined load configuration allows the generalized fracture toughness associated to each singular term to be evaluated. The whole procedure has been applied to a bimaterial CFRP-Adhesive bimaterial corner and the generalized fracture toughness values have been obtained. The testing of mixed modes has permitted a failure envelope based on the generalized fracture toughness values at the corner tip to be defined. Tecnologias de la informacion y la comunicacion y los ingresos en la empresa hotelera

El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar el impacto del uso de las TIC en la competitividad empresarial y en consecuencia en el ingreso (porcentaje de ocupación media) en el sector hotelero. Para ello, se realiza una breve síntesis de los modelos más relevantes que permiten recoger las relaciones de causalidad entre la calidad y la competitividad y se especifica el modelo teórico propuesto en esta investigación. La información utilizada para contrastar empíricamente dicho modelo se obtuvo de los establecimientos hoteleros, en el área de estudio. El trabajo concluye que el uso adecuado de las TIC con otros recursos de la organización, como la capacitación de recursos humanos, las convierten en una herramienta efectiva, que la empresa hotelera puede utilizar para generar y fortalecer ventajas competitiva

Potential welfare issues of the Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens) at the retailer and in the hobbyist aquarium

Betta splendens is an extremely popular ornamental fish among hobby aquarists. It has an interesting behavioral repertoire, particularly where male aggression and territoriality are concerned. The lack of scientific studies investigating optimal housing conditions in combination with the wide variety of commercially available husbandry products, raises questions about the welfare status of these fish in captivity. In this article, an overview of the available literature on the biology of the betta and general considerations of ornamental fish keeping is given, and environment- and animal-related factors with potential impact on the welfare of Betta splendens are examined. Although more research using biological and physiological indicators is needed, the following factors constituting welfare problems have been identified: an aquarium of limited dimensions, prevalence of Mycobacterium spp. infection, aggression to and from conspecifics or other species in the same aquarium and the limited ability to escape, potential for stress due to prolonged visual contact between males in shops and during shows, and the lack of environmental enrichment in the form of sheltering vegetation
